Description
Incorrectly secured loads can create serious safety hazards, cause costly damage and place workers and the public at risk. Knowing how to secure cargo correctly is an essential skill for anyone involved in loading, transporting or unloading goods.
In this practical course, you will learn how to prepare loads for transport, select the correct restraints, apply lashing techniques and safely secure different types of cargo. You will also develop the skills to identify hazards, follow workplace procedures and comply with industry safety requirements.
Training is based on real workplace scenarios, giving you hands on experience using cargo restraint equipment, interpreting lashing plans and applying safe loading practices. You will also learn how to protect cargo from weather, inspect loads and safely pack and unpack materials without causing injury or damage.
Successful completion of this unit demonstrates your ability to safely secure cargo in a range of workplace environments. These practical skills are highly valued by employers across transport, logistics, construction, mining and infrastructure industries where safe load restraint is a critical part of daily operations.

Entry requirements (Accredited)
To make the most of your YRT Accredited course, it’s essential to have the following skills:
- Participants should have basic English language, literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to complete training and assessment activities.
- Participants must be physically capable of participating in practical training and assessment activities where required.
- Valid photo identification is required prior to training commencement.
- Participants must provide evidence of valid Australian work rights where required, such as Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, Visa or other approved identification documents.
- Participants under 18 years of age may require parent or guardian consent.
