Description

The Combined TC2 and TMI2 program is designed for experienced traffic management personnel ready to progress to Category 2 traffic management on high-volume roads. Building on the skills gained through TC1 and TMI1, you'll learn to coordinate traffic control activities, implement Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS), and safely manage more complex traffic environments.

As part of the course, YRT includes the mandatory 20 hours of supervised workplace placement through our industry partner, First Nations Traffic Management (FNTM), allowing you to complete your practical workplace requirements while gaining valuable real-world experience.


Traffic Controller TC2

Participants will learn how to:
  • Coordinate traffic control activities
  • Manage traffic flow through worksites
  • Communicate with motorists, pedestrians, and work crews
  • Monitor changing traffic conditions
  • Apply risk management and safety procedures
  • Maintain traffic control devices and signage
  • Respond to incidents and changing site conditions

Traffic Management Implementer TMI2

Participants will learn how to:
  • Interpret and implement Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS)
  • Set up, monitor, adjust, and remove traffic management controls
  • Coordinate traffic management activities across worksites
  • Conduct site inspections and hazard identification
  • Maintain compliance with approved traffic management plans
  • Manage traffic management resources and equipment
  • Monitor and maintain site safety requirements

Entry Requirements (Accredited)

To enrol in this course, participants must meet the following requirements:

General Requirements

  • White Card Statement of Attainment (SOA) or USI Transcript with Unit of Competency
  • Be able to converse and comprehend basic English
  • Be of a fit and healthy nature and capable of undertaking practical, real-world traffic management activities
  • Hold a valid form of photo identification
  • Provide a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)

TC2 Requirements

  • Successfully completed RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set (TC1)
  • Provide evidence of at least 40 hours of experience working in a temporary traffic management workplace as a Traffic Controller

TMI2 Requirements

  • Successfully completed RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set (TMI1)
  • Provide evidence of at least one month of experience applying traffic management skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace
  • Provide evidence of setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management implementations

Evidence Requirements

Participants must provide evidence of all prerequisite qualifications and workplace experience prior to commencing training.

Workplace Placement

Following the classroom training and assessment, participants are required to complete workplace-based activities before the qualification can be finalised.
YRT includes the mandatory 20 hours of supervised workplace placement through our industry partner, First Nations Traffic Management (FNTM). This provides participants with the opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience while completing the workplace requirements of the course.
Participants must complete:
  • A minimum of 20 hours of workplace experience
  • A workplace logbook signed and verified by an approved workplace supervisor
  • Two practical workplace observations completed and signed off by the workplace supervisor
Statements of Attainment will only be issued once:
✔ Classroom training and assessment have been completed
✔ Workplace logbook requirements have been met
✔ Practical workplace observations have been completed and verified
✔ All required evidence has been submitted and approved

Entry requirements (Accredited)

To make the most of your YRT Accredited course, it’s essential to have the following skills:

  • TC1 and TMI1 qualifications, along with relevant workplace experience, are mandatory prerequisites for enrolment.
  • White Card Statement of Attainment (SOA) or USI Transcript with UOC
  • Basic English literacy and numeracy.
  • Photo ID (18 years of age or over)

  • Ensure compliance with approved traffic management plans

Upon successful completion, the student will receive a national Accredited qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and Australian Skills Quality Authority.
