Course Overview
Description
This course gives learners a clear, practical understanding of cultural safety in the workplace, particularly in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
It goes beyond compliance and “tick-the-box” training, focusing on what cultural safety looks like in day-to-day decisions, conversations, and workplace systems.
Delivered in the voice of the wonderful Bradlee Commins, the course combines storytelling, historical context, reflective practice, and practical tools. Participants will explore how history continues to shape experiences today, identify personal and organisational responsibilities, and leave with simple, actionable strategies to create safer, and more respectful workplaces over time.
Entry requirements (Accredited)
To make the most of your YRT Accredited course, it’s essential to have the following skills:
- To thrive in this course, you’ll need a basic in reading and writing English, along with basic computer skills.
- You’ll also need reliable access to a computer and the internet to fully engage with the YRT’s Learning Management System.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you'll have the tools and knowledge to confidently apply these key concepts in practice:
- Understand what cultural safety is (and isn’t) and why it matters for everyone in the workplace..
- Recognise how history and systems shape today’s experiences, and reflect on your own behaviours, bias, and accountability.
- Apply practical, everyday strategies that build culturally safe workplaces through respectful actions, communication, and ongoing learning.
- You will receive a Certificate of Completion upon finishing this Workshop Unit. Our eLearning workshop units have no connection to an external accreditation or professional body and specifically focuses on equipping the student with a specific skillset.
Upon successful completion, the student will receive a national Accredited qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and Australian Skills Quality Authority.
