Basic Scaffolding Course Content

This course is designed for applicants to obtain the required skills to erect and disassemble basic scaffolding configurations to meet the requirements of SafeWork NSW for a basic scaffolding licence.

Once applicants have completed this course they will be able to communicate and work safely with others in the work area, planning out their own work, select and inspect equipment, setting up for the task, erect, alter and dismantling of modular and manufactured scaffolds, erection of cantilevered materials hoists with a maximum working load limit of 500 kilograms, use of ropes and gin wheels, installation of safety nets, use of static lines, erection of bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork).

Although a person with a basic level scaffolding is not allowed to erect tube and coupler or more advanced scaffolds (hung and suspended), they are allowed to use tube and coupler components for: – Ties, – Tying scaffolding together at corners. – Handrails. – Security of toeboards or kickboards. – Installation and security of gin wheels.

Entry requirements (Accredited)

To make the most of your YRT Accredited course, it’s essential to have the following skills:

  • Basic English literacy and numeracy.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Ability to lift 20kgs from ground to overhead

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you'll have the tools and knowledge to confidently apply these key concepts in practice:

  • Safely erect, alter and dismantle basic scaffolding structures in line with WHS requirements.
  • Identify hazards and apply safe work practices when working at heights.
  • Inspect and use scaffolding components and equipment correctly.

Upon successful completion, the student will receive a national Accredited qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and Australian Skills Quality Authority.
