UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER

What is a Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number?

Your USI is your individual education number for life. It provides each student with an online record of all the vocational education and training (VET) that you have undertaken within Australia.

If you are attending university, TAFE of doing other nationally recognised training you will require a USI, without one you can’t get commonwealth financial assistance or your qualification or statement of attainment.

Identification requirements

You need at least one form of identification to create a USI. You can use a number of different ID types found here on the USI website.

There is no minimum age requirement to create a USI.

Creating your USI should take less than 5 minutes.

SMART & SKILLED (NSW)

Prospective students applying to undertake a Smart and Skilled approved qualification with Yalagan Registered Training must concurrently undertake the NSW Smart and Skilled Notification of Enrolment Process as follows including:

  • Yalagan Registered Training Student Enrolment Form
  • Smart and Skilled Integrated Subsidised Training Eligibility and Consent Form
    • Program and qualification details
    • Eligibility criteria
    • Student Eligibility Declaration
    • Authorise Yalagan Registered Training and the Department to have appropriate access to USI records
    • Consent to Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
      (If the prospective student does not provide their consent, YRT will not proceed with the Notification of Enrolment Process)
  • Provide two forms of ID such as:
    • NSW Driver’s License
    • Medicare card
    • Student ID
  • Prospective student has provided information that is true, accurate, and complete
  • Ensure a Notification of Enrolment process has not concurrently been completed for the same qualification and/or same units of competency for the same or other qualification(s)
  • In the event there is a Third-Party arrangement, the prospective student has been made aware prior to enrolment
  • Prospective student has been provided with the details of any Fee chargeable as per itemised fees generated by the Provider Calculator
  • Successful completion of the Notification of Enrolment process will result in the issue of a Commitment ID

How to Enrol:

All applicants that are being considered for a course must provide the following material to their desired RTO prior to course commencement:

  1. Submit a completed/signed Student Enrolment Form
  2. Submit evidence that you have met the published entry requirements for the course
  3. Submit essential support documents
  4. If required, undertake eligibility assessment and evidence submission for government funded or subsidised training
  5. Corporate workshops and soft skills applicants needs to fill up the short course enrolment form only

Applications:

All applicants seeking to enrol with Yalagan Registered Training are required by the RTO to submit acceptable evidence that they meet published entry criteria for their chosen course including;

  • Completed enrolment form with applicant signature
  • Driver licence, Photo ID, or current Australian Passport
  • Concession cards (where applicable)
  • Published entry requirements/pre-requisites (where applicable)
  • Please add completed Credit transfer form or RPL application form (if required)

Successful applicants will receive an Acceptance of Enrolment with course details, conditions of study, payment of tuition and other fees, orientation date

Unsuccessful applicants will receive formal notification that their application has been unsuccessful including the reason(s)

If you can answer YES to all four of the below questions you are an eligible participant

Are you:

  1. 15 years old or over?
  2. No longer at school?
  3. Living or working in NSW?
  4. An Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen?

If you answered ‘Yes’ to all four questions, then you’re eligible to enrol in a smart and skilled funded training with YRT.

This can be:

  • Full qualification
  • Part qualification
  • Negotiated training with employer

Yalagan Registered Training Smart and Skilled Courseware

NSW Smart and Skilled is the NSW Government program for vocational education and training which was originally established as a reform of the vocational education and training system giving people the chance to gain the skills they need to get a job or advance their career.

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with an entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III as well as government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas. Yalagan Registered Training is an Approved Smart and Skilled Provider and the chart below includes the list of approved qualifications that Yalagan Registered Training is approved to deliver under the following NSW Smart and Skilled Programs:

CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FUND (WA)

Construction Training Fund (CTF) supports a skilled, safe and sustainable workforce in building and construction across Western Australia. CTF and Yalagan Registered Training work together to help build career pathways for businesses and individuals expanding the expertise of all workers within the Construction sector.

CTF in conjunction with YRT supports construction industry workers, and students by providing subsidies for upskilling and training courses and recognition of prior learning (RPL). It is CTF’s mission to;

  • ✓ Reduce what you pay by subsidising part of your training costs
  • ✓ Support your unique training and skills needs
  • ✓ Help you through the claiming process

Yalagan Registered Training – Try-a-Trade Program with CTF

The Try-a-Trade program in conjunction with CTF allows Yalagan Registered Training participants to try different trades, find the right career path and learn critical skills needed for the job.

Participants gain real-world experience through practical activities led by an experienced professional. Each Try-A-Trade course runs for up to three days and focuses on two to three trades.

Once completed, participants will have gained a greater understanding of the necessary skills to start a career in construction. Yalagan Registered Training Advisors and Mentors are available to help answer any students’ questions and outline the next steps for education and career opportunities.

Funding Eligibility – Individuals and Industry Workers

Eligibility for Construction Training Fund Direct Indenture Grants, Supplementary Skills/OH&S Program subsidies and additional benefits is dependent on an individual’s or company’s ability to demonstrate primary and substantial direct involvement in Western Australia’s construction industry, specifically in on-site construction, installation and fabrication activity.

  • Financial rebate is eligible for successful students/applicants who meet the CTF requirements.
  • Interested students/applicants will need to fill out CTF Application Form and pay the “Gap Payment” prior to booking a course with us.

How to Apply:

Individuals and Schools can apply for CTF subsidy by submitting an application from with Yalagan Registered Training. Once submitted your application will be assessed against the eligibility criteria and the applicant will be notified of the assessment within 2 business days from date of submission.

  1. Prior to making a booking with YRT you will need to fill out an Application Form for an Eligibility Check
  2. Once reviewed, CTF will notify you if you are eligible or not
  3. Once notified and deemed eligible you will then make the gap payment to secure your booking.

JOBS AND SKILLS (WA)

Overview:

Jobs and Skills WA have provided their new Year 9 Career Taster Program (CTP) which aims to inspire secondary school students to become ‘career curious’ about further study opportunities and potential careers.

The program offers the following.

  • Industry-led experiences and activities that will introduce them to new and different areas of work and career opportunities
  • Career development training that will assist them in making informed decisions on their subject selections and post-school options

It also gives teachers, schools and industry a flexible framework that enables students to learn about different industries, current and emerging occupations, and career pathways and the skills required for them. You can learn more about Jobs and Skills WA’s Year 9 Career Taster Program here

Yalagan Registered Training’s Year 9 Career Taster Program

The YRT Career Taster Program introduces students to construction career pathways through the delivery of a fun, hands-on exploration sessions covering industry disciplines such as Civil, Building, Mining and Rail construction.

Using the custom built, YRT Mobile Training Trailer, our qualified and experienced industry presenter will conduct a series of tailored exercises – comprising practical and theory elements – to engage students and give them an insight into the possibilities available to them in the construction industry.

Session Overview Session Content Duration
Rigging and Safety Systems ·        This course is designed to give students an overview of common types of PPE, safety signage, set up of exclusion/safe work zones and demonstrations of specialist safe working equipment that are a fundamental starting point for all construction industry roles. 2 Hours
Session Breakdown
Duration: Minimum 2 hours and maximum of 3 hours subject to number of students and selected rigging options
Capacity: Minimum of 10 students and maximum of 20
Set Up: YRT arrival and trailer/site set up – 60 minutes
Theory Component – 20 minutes
Practical Component – 80 minutes
Pack up / session debrief: – 20 minutes
